-ery

St Ives 2006Nice scenery from the cemetery

When adding the suffixes –ary, -ery, and –ory, there are often no sound clues to help you decide which to use. Sometimes the root word gives a clue:
bravebravery,   bakebakery,  everevery,  deliverdelivery…

Pronunciation – there’s a slight “uh” sound for the ‘e‘ in –ery. Sometimes pronounced sometimes not in some words.
